Created by Western filmmaker Sam Peckinpah (THE WILD BUNCH), THE RIFLEMAN was consistently one of the most popular shows on television during its five-year run from 1958 to 1963 on ABC. Former athlete Chuck Connors stars as Lucas McCain, a widower with a young son. McCain moves to New Mexico in the 1880s, where he struggles with raising his son and running a ranch. But McCain's desire to see justice done cannot be denied either, and he often finds himself battling outlaws and wrongdoers. McCain sets an admirable example for his son in each 30-minute episode of this western television series. She accepts a position as the in-house caretaker of Victor Geddes (Campbell Scott), a wealthy young man who is suffering from blood cancer. Hilary's first experiences of the aftereffects of chemotherapy leave her in doubt as to whether she can handle the job, but Victor convinces her to stay, as he is beginning to see in her a reason to live. When Victor informs her that his chemo has been successfully completed, they move to a secluded home to start a life together, until cancer once again intrudes.
