Surveying the carnage that surrounds him in London, Quatermass observes gang rule on the streets, a threat from a malevolent force from beyond the stars, and a society on the brink of collapse. Sin City - Recut And Extended (DVD)
Adapted from Frank Miller`s graphic novels, SIN CITY is Robert Rodriguez`s striking film noir infused with fantasy, taking place in a world where it is eternally nighttime and everything is drenched in rain and violence. Using a unique combination of silvery black and white digital photography with occasional flashes of bright color for dazzling punctuation, Rodriguez employs green screen techniques and paints a backdrop around each scene, using Miller`s co-direction as his cue to match the original setting as closely as possible. Three stories weave together, occasionally overlapping. With lines delivered flatly in the hard-boiled style of Raymond Chandler, these tales are about crime, love, loss, and being preternaturally tough. In the most caustically dramatic segment, Mickey Rourke plays the fearlessly lovestruck Marv, a trenchcoat-clad beast who falls in love with prostitute Goldie (Jaime King) only to find her murdered by a demonic cannibal (Elijah Wood). In another segment, Bruce Willis plays Hartigan, a rogue cop with a
bum ticker
whose goal in life is to save Nancy (Jessica Alba), an innocent stripper, from a murderous rapist (Nick Stahl). The third segment stars Clive Owen as a detective caught between murdered cop Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro) and a slew of lethally dangerous vixens lead by Gail (Rosario Dawson). With blood spurting white, yellow, and yes even red; a roster of hot actors that goes on and on; and sound editing that makes you feel like you`re the one being punched in the face, SIN CITY is a gift for fans of Miller`s art, loaded with style and grit.

SPECIES: A genetically engineered, shape-shifting creature with extraterrestrial intelligence adopts the form of a beautiful woman to mate with humans and unleash a brood of offspring that will destroy mankind. A team of experts must band together to stop her--it--from accomplishing its diabolical mission.
Special editions contain behind-the-scenes footage with creature creator H.R. Giger.SPECIES 2: Sil, the sex-crazed alien life form from the predecessor
Species
is now a clone named Eve (Henstridge). Eve is the acting subject of governmental experiments until a trio of astronauts returns from a trip to Mars and one starts behaving rather strangely. Astronaut Patrick Ross (Lazard) begins to act eerily similar to Sil in that sexual predator sort of way that Henstridge made so endearing in SPECIES.SPECIES 3: Returning for a third bite of the SPECIES cherry, director Brad Turner replaces the curvacious Eve (Natasha Henstridge, who makes a brief appearance) with her daughter and fellow hottie Sara (Sunny Mabrey). The battle between mankind and the human-alien lifeforms has gathered pace since the last frenetic round of SPECIES action, with the humans gaining a slight upper hand. But the emergence of Sara soon gives the aliens a vital boost to their efforts, with the deviously seductive hybrid heading to earth in order to repopulate it by reproducing as much as possible! Her incredible sex drive allows her to carry out the taxing mission, but a huge human military presence is gathering, aiming to put Sara and her cohorts out of action for good.

War of the Worlds (SE/DVD)
One cannot help but think of terrorist attacks while watching Stephen Spielberg`s update of the classic sci-fi fantasy THE WAR OF THE WORLDS. While the H.G. Wells story dates back to 1898, and has inspired previous adaptations, this particular version feeds off its 21st century audience`s fear of a terrorist-induced apocalypse. Even if the sight of tall buildings crumbling to the ground and crowds running fearfully away from their demise doesn`t trigger post-9/11 paranoia, dialogue such as
Is it the terrorists?
will.Disgruntled, divorced father Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is struggling to connect with his estranged kids, who have been dropped off by their mother for the weekend, when a severe and unusual lightning storm leaves his New Jersey neighborhood powerless. Over the course of the next few hours, it becomes obvious that this was not a storm at all, but rather the first sign of a worldwide alien attack. Emerging from the ground in multi-legged tripod-like machines that have apparently been stored beneath the earth`s surface since before man`s time, these aliens begin the process of waging a long-planned war on our planet. While WAR OF THE WORLDS follows Ray`s growing closeness with his two children (Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin) in the face of imminent disaster, and his transformation from lousy father to hero, their story is used mostly as a vehicle for illustrating an unending series of horrific scenarios. The human element of the story is also briefly explored with Tim Robbins`s portrayal of a crazed, alien-fighting recluse. Sticking closely to Wells`s original descriptions of alien warfare, the film focuses mainly on visuals and succeeds through impressive special effects to create two hours of thrilling, frightening, realistic terror.

Alien Vs. Predator/Alien (DVD)
ALIEN: Director Ridley Scott`s breakthough film, an immensely successful blend of horror and science fiction, is a classic in both genres and spawned a host of sequels and imitators. Starring Sigourney Weaver as warrant officer Ellen Ripley, ALIEN focuses on the crew of the space cargo ship Nostromo, which lands on a moribund planet in response to a faint SOS. Inside a crashed ship, the crew members come upon strange pods, one of which spews forth a repellently fleshy insectile creature that locks on to the face of the unlucky Kane (John Hurt). Despite Ripley`s advice, science officer Ash (Ian Holm) allows Kane to return to the ship, where the creature finally releases its grip. Soon, however, in one of the film`s most infamous scenes, one of its offspring explodes horribly from Kane`s stomach and scurries away. Dallas (Tom Skerritt), the vessel`s captain, leads the others in a search for the rapidly growing, acid-dripping alien before it can cut them down--one by one. A triumph of art direction, set design, and special effects, ALIEN gains much of its impact from the contrast between the bleak, antiseptic beauty of the space vessel`s interior and the primordial horror of the alien, a brilliantly original fusion of insect, man, and machine designed by Swiss surrealist painter H.R. Giger. The top-notch cast also includes Veronica Cartwright, Yaphet Kotto, and Harry Dean Stanton.ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: When audiences caught a glimpse of an alien skull mounted in the trophy cabinet of a Predator in the 1990 film PREDATOR 2, it seemed a franchise was about to be born. Sure enough, comic book artists immediately seized on the possibilities suggested by the brief scene, and a number of skirmishes between the deadly foes were played out on the printed page. Fans have had to endure a lengthy wait for a cinematic match-up, but writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson (EVENT HORIZON) has finally delivered the blood-splattered goods in ALIEN VS. PREDATOR.
