Jurassic Park (DVD)
Steven Spielberg directed this blockbuster thriller based on the popular book by Michael Crichton. Millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) asks two dinosaur experts (Laura Dern and Sam Neill) to act as consultants on his entrepreneurial endeavor--an amusement park with DNA-cloned live dinosaurs as the main attraction. The paleontologists, along with a mathematician (Jeff Goldblum) and Hammond's two grandchildren, takes a run-through tour of the park. But soon the joyride turns to terror when an impending hurricane, an unscrupulous engineer (Wayne Knight), and the rebelling dinosaurs begin to destroy the park. Spielberg considered the most popular star of the film to be a computer-generated Tyrannosaurus rex. The special effects in general are spectacular. As Hollywood's preeminent director, Spielberg was used as a kind of financial savior for Universal Studios, which was hurting economically prior to the dinosaurian venture. Spielberg made a deal with Universal--his dream project, SCHINDLER'S LIST, would be green-lighted if he agreed to make JURASSIC PARK for the studio first. By the time SCHINDLER'S LIST premiered in December 1993, JURASSIC PARK, which had been released six months earlier, had broken E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL's worldwide box-office record.DVD FeaturesRegion 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Dolby Surround - FrenchAdditional Release Material: Featurette Biographies - Cast& Crew TrailersText/Photo Galleries: Storyboards Production Notes Stills/Photos - Production PhotosDVD-ROM Features: Weblinks Chat Links

A spacecraft carrying an assortment of passengers including Riddick (Vin Diesel), a dangerous, shackled murderer between prisons, is forced to make a crash landing on a barren, triple-sunned planet after the craft suffers severe damage during a meteor shower. The ship is ripped into pieces, killing several crew members and leaving meek officer Fry (Radha Mitchell) in charge of the survivors. After two unfortunate deaths,
the survivors discover that the only visible life form on the planet is a species of light-fearing, carnivorous, occasionally cannibalistic aliens dwelling in caverns beneath the desert surface. Using a model of the planet and its suns in an abandoned research station, Fry deduces that she and her fellow travellers have unfortunately descended on the planet on the day of its first total eclipse in 22 years, giving them mere hours before they are bathed in total darkness. Only then is it safe for the hungry subterranean creatures to emerge, seeking to feed on the remaining survivors. However, the dangerous Riddick, through black market injections received in lock-up, is able to see in darkness- causing the surviving crew members to reluctantly remain dependent on the potentially harmful criminal. As the survivors are killed one by one by the hungry creatures, they realize that Riddick may be their only hope.

Director Ridley Scott's lush fantasy film stars the young Tom Cruise as Jack, a peasant who lives in an enchanted forest with his beloved Lili (Mia Sara). One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention.DVD Features:Region 12-Disc SetKeep CaseDisc One:Director's CutAnamorphic Widescreen - 2.35Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English DTS Surround 5.1 - English Dolby Surround - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary Alternate Audio Track - 1.
