Based on the popular video game, YS takes place on the island country of Esteria, a magical that was once the home of great riches and beauty. Unfortunately, evil has seeped into Esteria, and now the country is overrun by dark forces that torment its people. When a wandering adventurer named Adol Christen happens onto this desperate land, he decides to begin a quest to restore Esteria to its former glory. A team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the distant Pegasus galaxy to explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients--also known as Atlantis--in this first season of the STARGATE SG-1 spin-off series. The Ancients were an advanced human race that initially created the Stargate network, and diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and pilot Major John Sheppherd (Joe Flanigan) head the international squad that is sent to investigate. The team arrives at Atlantis to find the city abandoned and their ship permanently stranded, unless they can find a power source to get themselves home to earth. They make contact with a brave but primitive native civilization as well as with the evil Wraith, a species that feeds on fear and, it quickly becomes clear, poses a threat to human life everywhere. Sheppard`s brash, instinctive nature contrasts with the calm thoughtfulness of Dr. Weir, and their team is rounded out by Sheppard`s second-in-command Lt. Aidan Ford, witty Scottish doctor Carson Beckett, Pegasus native leader Teyla Emmagen, and inimitable scientist Rodney McKay. The 20 episodes of the first season have the Stargate team feeling their way around this dangerous new galaxy and interacting with its varied inhabitants, while being forced to work as a team and learn more about each other as well.

In RIVERS AND TIDES, German documentarian Thomas Riedelshiemer attempts to capture the essence of Scottish artist Andy Goldsworthy, who uses natural materials to create site-specific pieces which he then leaves to be carried away--or destroyed altogether--by the elements. Goldsworthy is seen at home in Scotland, as well as in Nova Scotia, France, and upstate New York, where he is commissioned to create unique works. A pinecone-like structure made of thick pieces of ice, vibrant, uniformly green leaves stitched together to form a snake which uncoils as it floats downstream, and a hanging fence of twigs painstakingly pinned together are just a few of Goldsworthy's lovely and unique creations. The artist, gentle and amiable, explains as he creates that part of the beauty of his work is that it isn't lasting and therefore he uses photographs to document what he otherwise would not be able to show. RIVERS AND TIDES is able to present the entire process of a handful of Goldsworthy's works including a few which collapse before he is able to complete them. Brian Yuzna (NECRONOMICON, BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR) bases his chilling tale on a novel by Spanish author Alberto Vazquez Figueroa, adding science-fiction overtones and setting the action in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world. Dante (William Miller) is an inmate of a grim, brutal prison. He is carefully plotting his escape, but the facility possesses an apparently undefeatable weapon in Rott, a dog that was brought back from the brink of death and turned into a killing machine. Trained to instill members of a chain gang with an incapacitating fear, Rott has steel incisors implanted in his jaw and a taste for blood. But escaping the prison will not ensure Dante`s safety, for this mechanical beast won`t stop until his prey is overcome. Meanwhile, Dante`s path crosses that of a group of thrill-seeking teenagers, marking them for the kill as well. The fright-fest features excellent special effects by Vincent Guastini, and an appearance by the great Spanish horror actor Paul Naschy (KING OF KINGS, FRANKENSTEIN`S BLOODY TERROR).

In Guillermo del Toro's BLADE II, Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the part-human, part-vampire superhero based on the comic book character. Following a trail of blood that leads to Prague, Blade (aka the Daywalker) slays a legion of bloodsuckers in the search for his abducted mentor, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Soon Blade reluctantly joins forces with a band of skilled vampiric warriors called the Bloodpack to hunt down an even deadlier enemy--the monstrous Reapers, who prey on vampires and humans alike, infecting them with an incurable virus. In addition to battling these relentless new foes, Blade must deal with situations brought about by the Bloodpack's tenuous alliance --in particular, his attraction to the lovely Nyssa (Leonor Varela) and his rivalry with the brutish Reinhardt (Ron Perlman).A hyperkinetic motion picture, BLADE II literally explodes onto the screen with hi-tech weaponry and stunning special effects. The fight sequences, choreographed by Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (who plays Bloodpack member Snowman), are remarkably hard-hitting and elaborate. The film also improves on the entertaining original by adding a darker, more visceral tone that's fleshed out by del Toro's stylish and brilliantly grotesque visuals.
