Captured at the peak of their time together, the Dixie Dregs` show at the 1978 Montreux Jazz Festival is a classic performance by this seminal band. The first group formed by virtuosic instrumental rock guitarist Steve Morse, later of Deep Purple, the Dixie Dregs` jazz-rock fusion was colored with a country twang. Morse went on to a successful solo career, becoming GUITAR MAGAZINE`S Best Overall Guitarist five times, before eventually being deemed ineligible so someone else could have a shot. But the ideas, influences, and limits of rock that he explored with the Dixie Dregs remained in evidence throughout his career, as well as in this inspiring performance. The rest of the lineup features Allen Sloan (violin), Andy West (bass), Rod Morgenstein (drums), and Mark Parrish (keyboards).

Nineteenth-century Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti is one of the most important composers of the bel canto operatic tradition, and his 1832 romantic comedy L`ELISIR D`AMORE (THE ELIXIR OF LOVE) remains a perennial favorite of opera repertories to this day. Legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti and soprano Kathleen Battle star in this 1991 production, offering flawless performances of the vocally challenging lead roles of lovelorn peasant Nemorino and his beloved Adina, who are hampered in their pursuit of romance by the comic machinations of a shifty physician and a pompous soldier.

Two classic operas--Mascagni's CAVALLERIA RUSICANA and Leoncavallo's PAGLIACCI--are performed by opera heavyweights in these now legendary productions directed by the famed Franco Zeffirelli.
