Conductor Igor Markevitch has been at the helm of a number of important works over the years, and is extensively profiled in this fascinating release. It`s always a special occasion when U2 hit the road to promote a new album. The year 2005 was no exception, as the band wowed worldwide audiences with the Vertigo tour, which featured a selection of classic old material coupled with tracks from 2004`s HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB. This release includes the full concert from the Chicago date of the tour, with Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr., and Adam Clayton demonstrating their considerable prowess as a live band. Despite their lengthy tenure at the top, the band still strives to innovate, and while the show isn`t quite as spectacular as their `90s outings to promote ACHTUNG BABY and ZOOROPA, they still provide an impressive visual spectacle.

Filmed around the hectic touring period that was undertaken to promote their 1996 album LOAD, CUNNING STUNTS sees Metallica pull up in Fort Worth, Texas to play a couple of shows. The band were undergoing an experimental phase of their career at the time, and include many interesting re-workings of their most famous songs. The band made sure the shows were an awesome spectacle, with some incredible pyrotechnics deployed; a 360 degree stage in the center of the arena; a highly theatrical rendition of Enter Sandman; and much more besides. The Who are known as one of the greatest live rock bands of all time, and the concert films presented here do nothing to dispute that claim. One is a memorable performance of their brilliant rock opera TOMMY, taped at a 1989 concert in Los Angeles`s Universal Amphitheatre. The story of a deaf, dumb, and blind pinball whiz, this show featured high-caliber guest musicians like Elton John, Billy Idol, Phil Collins, Steve Winwood, and Patti LaBelle. The second film here presents a powerhouse rendition of The Who`s second opus, QUADROPHENIA, the saga of a young man coming of age in the disillusioning 1960s. This footage is taken from the first production to faithfully follow Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey`s original vision, which formed part of the band`s 1996/1997 U.S. tour.
