An exciting mix of rough-and-tumble baseball with lively song-and-dance numbers makes this musical a home run. When middle-aged Joe, number one Washington Senators fan, gets a deal from the devil and is transformed into a hotshot rookie baseball player, the Senators have their first real chance to beat the Yankees and capture the pennant. But the devil`s secret agenda is to pull the rug out from under the fans` feet just before the Senators win, hopefully sparking massive depression. Joe`s yearning for his wife throws a wrench into the devil`s devious works, encouraging the devil to call in Lola, the best vamp in his staff. Joe and Lola warily dance around each other, he fascinated by her physical charms, she mesmerized by his honest goodness. With so much pressure on him, can Joe hold it together long enough to beat those damn Yankees, win the pennant for the Senators...and keep his soul?

Louis Hayward stars in this rip-roaring swashbuckler as the mysterious masked swordsman Captain Sirocco. By day, Sirocco disguises himself as foppish Count Amalfi so he can spy around the court of the evil Queen Carolina (Binnie Barnes). By night, Amalfi dons his mask and prepares to lead the people of Capri to victory against the corrupt chief of police, Baron Scarpia (Rudolph Serato). The King of Poverty Row, director Edgar G. Ulmer (DETOUR, BLUEBEARD) combines intrigue, suspense and last minute escapes with a neo-realist flavor popular in Italian film at the time: stark, expressionistic sequences of life in the streets (it was filmed on location in Naples) provide a nice contrast to the glamorous escapades. PIRATES OF CAPRI features plenty of well-staged sword fighting and a climactic duel. Sonny is a frustrated 31 year-old bellhop at a rapidly declining hotel in Tacoma, Washington. With little to live for save for caring for his mentally retarded brother in their squalid apartment, Sonny makes ends meet by stealing goods from the hotel and selling them or by procuring sex for the hotel guests.
