The Medallion (DVD)
Jackie Chan is back in action with THE MEDALLION, yet another fast-paced martial arts action-comedy. Chan plays Eddie Yang, a Hong Kong cop who is working with Interpol officer Arthur Watson (Lee Evans) in order to protect a gifted young child. Aware that the child holds a centuries-old medallion that could give him limitless powers, Snakehead (Julian Sands) and his band of criminals kidnap the child and head for Dublin. It isn't long before Eddie arrives in Ireland where he is teamed up with beautiful Interpol officer Nicole James (Claire Forlani), who also happens to be a former flame. Together Eddie, Nicole, and the bumbling Watson manage to track down the child, but after an accident in which Eddie appears to have died, it's up to the gifted boy to put the trusty medallion to work and resuscitate him. While Chan appears to have lost a bit of a bounce from his early days, he still pulls off moves that would leave most actors flatfooted. This time around, director Gordon Chan uses special effects alongside superstar choreographer Sammo Hung's action sequences, giving the audience a double dose of adrenaline. As is the case with most Chan films, hilarious outtakes and bloopers accompany the film's closing credits.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Dolby Digital 5.1 - FrenchAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1. The Prodigal Son (DVD)
Leung Chang (Yuen Biao) is a spoiled son who thinks he is the baddest kung fu master around--until he is pounded in a fight with an effeminate Wing Chun master (Lam Ching-Ying) who plays a girl in a traveling Peking Opera troupe. Realizing that his father has been paying his opponents to lose, Leung begs to become the Wing Chun master's student. The master, however, doesn't agree to teach Leung until another spoiled son appears--a Manchu noble seeking to test his fighting skills. THE PRODIGAL SON is one of the earliest films with Yuen Biao in a lead role. The film helped Yuen, one of the most talented acrobats of his generation, attain a stardom nearly equal to that of his brothers, Jackie Chan and director Sammo Hung. For Hung, THE PRODIGAL SON is his second film to depict the Wing Chun fighting system (the first was WARRIORS TWO); both films are considered classics in Wing Chun cinema. Hung appears in THE PRODIGAL SON as a portly master of long-form Wing Chun; in comic asides, Hung also demonstrates two new martial arts forms, calligraphy kung fu and toiletry kung fu.DVD Features:Region 0 (All Regions)Keep CaseWidescreen - 2.35:1Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - Chinese/ Cantonese Dolby Digital 5.1 - Chinese/ MandarinAdditional Release Material: TrailersInteractive Features: Scene Access Interactive Menus
