Hamlet (DVD)
In this highly unusual film version of Shakespeare's play, Sir John Gielgud's 1964 stage production starring Richard Burton is filmed during a live performance on Broadway. Shot over two days at three successive performances with a live audience, the film was made using a variety of cameras capturing the action from different angles, which were later edited together into the finished film. Gielgud's production tells the story of the melancholy Danish prince using extremely simple scenery and with the actors dressed to look like they are wearing modern rehearsal clothing rather than finished costumes in order to give the production the feel of a final run-through rather than a lavishly appointed costume drama. The film is a fascinating record of the production and offers a rare chance to see one of Richard Burton's Shakespeare performances on film.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Dolby Digital Mono

Orphans of the Storm (DVD)
Legendary director D.W. Griffith (INTOLERANCE) delivers another sweeping historical epic with this film, based on the d'Ennery and Corman play, THE TWO ORPHANS. Sisters Lillian and Dorothy Gish are the girls who become separated in the streets of eighteenth century Paris during the dramatic upheavals of the French Revolution. As Henriette (Lillian Gish) searches for her blind adopted sister Louise (Dorothy Gish), she falls in love with a kind and concerned young member of the aristocracy, Chevalier (Joseph Schildkraut). Unfortunately their love is doomed by her commoner status, and his callous uncle (Frank Losee), who railroads her off to prison to keep them apart. The revolution occurs, and Henriette is liberated, but then there's more trouble when mob rule causes chaos in the streets, the guillotine awaits Chevalier, and Louise remains just out of reach.Griffith captures the class injustice at the heart of this story by contrasting scenes of lavish parties at the houses of the nobles with the abject poverty of the beggars outside. The thrilling use of crowds and meticulous historical accuracy make this an epic comparable in scope and theme to BIRTH OF A NATION, which is how Griffith undoubtedly meant it. The film is silent, with tinted scenes and film score.Keep Case

This is a timeless, universal story adapted from the novella by German writer Herman Hesse, about youth, the search for one's place in the world, and the struggle for happiness. Based loosely on the Indian mythological story of the prince who went on to seek enlightenment and become the Buddha, the film was made in a breathtakingly beautiful part of Northern India by director screenwriter Conrad Rooks (CHAPPAQUA) and cinematographer Sven Nykvist.Siddhartha, played by renowned Indian actor Shashi Kapoor, becomes disillusioned with the quest for spiritual enlightenment, and turns to the pursuit of material wealth. Unfortunately, he discovers that the truth remains elusive on either side of the fence, and that what ultimately makes life worth living is inner contentment and love.At once a kind of road movie, a historical drama, and a period piece, SIDDHARTHA leaves a lasting impression on the viewer, for both its lush visual quality and the profound story that unfolds.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Dolby Digital Mono - English Dolby Digital Mono - German Dolby Digital Mono - SpanichAdditional Release Material: Trailers - 1.
