Samson (DVD)
Shot in 1961 by acclaimed Polish director Andrzej Wajda (MAN OF IRON), SAMSON is the story of a twice-imprisoned Jewish man, whose quest for freedom leads him only to dead ends and broken dreams. Initially jailed after an innocuous playground skirmish results in the accidental killing of a schoolmate, Samson subsequently endures a lengthy jail term. Released as the fires of World War II rage, his freedom proves to be short lived when he is imprisoned in Warsaw as the German army tears Poland apart. Escaping, he clenches freedom within his grasp once more, only to discover a different kind of jail in the distinctly non-Jewish society into which he emerges. This collection of shorts from some prolific Czech directors is a great way to discover the dearth of filmmaking talent the country has produced. The common threads that bind each film is that they are all based on different tales by writer Bohumil Hrabal, and all the filmmakers emerged from the fertile 1960s Czech New Wave. Among the directors contributing works are Jiri Menzel, Jan Nemec, Evald Schorm, Vera Chytilova, and Jaromil Jires.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Biography Mini Biographies Featurette

Untold Scandal (DVD)
The intrigue, deception, and debauched sexuality of LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES is dropped nearly intact into the Korean equivalent of the Victorian Age, 19th Century Chosun Dynasty. The amoral Lord Jo-Won (Bae Yong-jun) is challenged by his equally licentious cousin Lady Cho (Lee Mi-suk) to deflower a teenager, (Lee Soh-yeon); the girl is meant to become the concubine of Lady Cho's husband. If he succeeds in this endeavor, he wins bedding privileges with his cousin, but the rapacious young Lord's eye is quickly distracted as he sets his sights on the seduction of a beautiful young widow, Lady Sook (Jeon Do-yeon); she has remained chaste for nine years since her husband's death. This endeavor may prove more difficult than the rakish Jo-won is prepared for, and as he competes with the widow's strong though illicit Christian faith for her attention, he may find his oft-repeated mantra--I have room for only one person in my heart--surprisingly challenged. With lush photography, stunning costumes and art direction, and fresh, nuanced performances from all the actors, this erotic period piece was a box-office smash in South Korea, and is sure to delight audiences worldwide.DVD FeaturesAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Additional Release Material: TrailersText/Photo Galleries: Stills

Jan Dara (DVD)
Beautiful, nostalgic photography and a haunting score make this melodrama of sex, love, and filial antagonism a treat for the senses. Nonzee Nimibutr (NANG NAK, BAYTONG) directs this adaptation of Usana Ploengtham's novel, THE STORY OF JAN DARA, which is regarded as the most notorious erotic novel in Thai literature. The title character, played by Suwinit Panjamawat, is established early on as a pariah in his home, when his mother dies while giving birth to him. His father, Khun Luang (Santisuk Promsiri), ostracizes him, labeling him a bastard and delivering brutal beatings to the boy. Khun Luang (which means master) has an insatiable sexual appetite, and the child's earliest memories are of witnessing his father's conquests. The boy's own sexuality is initiated at an early age, and continues to blossom despite the violence of his father. Eventually his father's daughter, brought up to despise Jan Dara, falsely accuses him of a crime and has him thrown out of the house. Years later, the grown Jan (Eakarat Sarsukh) is asked back into the fold to save the family name, and in wreaking his revenge, he inadvertently continues the cycle of cruelty established by his father. This controversial film stars Asian sex goddess Christy Chung as Jan Dara's young stepmother and lover, and sent the Thai censors into convulsions with its overt sensuality that touches upon many taboo subjects, but it is the very human drama at the film's core that gives JAN DARA its resonance.DVD Features:Dolby Digital 5.1 - Thai
