High School Boot Camp (DVD) High School Boot Camp (DVD) $17.94 » High School Boot Camp (DVD)

Director Chuck Braverman certainly got his hands dirty with this attempt to document the activities at a HIGH SCHOOL BOOT CAMP. Choosing the Eagle Academy in Belle Grade, Florida as his muse, Braverman follows a group of youths as they attempt to rescue their troubled lives from toppling further into a crime-strewn abyss. But to survive the rigors of the Boot Camp these kids will discover they have to leave their ego's at the door--a task some of them find hard to accomplish. As the tough regime kicks into action, it becomes clear exactly how harsh the training is, with Marine-style maneuvers introduced in an attempt to instill some discipline in the youthful miscreants. An emotionally-charged documentary, Braverman's film is a bold attempt to chronicle a facet of youth development that has rarely been seen on screen before.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Filmmaker Commentary Where are they now updates Filmmaker Biography and FilmographyInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene AccessDVD Rom Features: Weblink

Lost Boys of Sudan (DVD) Lost Boys of Sudan (DVD) $17.94 » Lost Boys of Sudan (DVD)

LOST BOYS OF SUDAN, directed by San Francisco-based documentary filmmakers Megan Mylan and Jon Shenk, observes the experiences and impressions of two boys from Sudan who were brought to the United States as part of a resettlement program that took place in 2001. Thousands of people were allowed to immigrate to the United States to escape from the civil war that had plagued Sudan for 20 years, driving many of that country's residents to refugee camps. Peter Dut and Santino Chuor met Mylan and Shank in a refugee camp in Kakuma Kenya, which is where they agreed to make LOST BOYS. The film tracks their passage to the United States, where they settle into lives and jobs in Houston, Texas, and Kansas City, Missouri. It is through their eyes that the film communicates both an idea of what Sudan is like in their memories of home, the differences between the lives they led in Africa and their new lives in the United States, and the simple homesickness and frustration that comes with being transplanted to a totally foreign country. In the end, what comes through is their determination to succeed, adapt, and build a strong foundation in their new country, while never forgetting the people they left behind.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Interviews Deleted Scenes Biographies

Farmingville (DVD) Farmingville (DVD) $17.94 » Farmingville (DVD)

The late 1990s saw a large population of illegal Mexican immigrants desert their home country and take root in the unusual location of Farmingville, New York, in Long Island. Taking menial jobs that were shunned by the local community, the transition was an uneasy one, with rising tensions between the locals and the immigrants resulting in some unpleasant skirmishes. The problems raced to a sad, yet inevitable, conclusion when two Mexican laborers barely escaped an attack with their lives intact, leading to some brutal scenes of protest and violence. Local residents and filmmakers Carlos Sandoval and Catherine Tambini document the sad events in this compelling documentary, offering a startling portrait of a community in peril, which also serves as a damning indictment on the treatment meted out to immigrants in the USA.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Interview FilmakerInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Access
