H.H. Holmes: The World's First Serial Killer (DVD)
America has been stuck by a glut of serial killers over the years, but the phenomenon began with the work of one man: H.H. Holmes. Based in Chicago, Holmes terrorized the local community with a series of murders and his infamous death house. A local landlord, Holmes ensnared his victims by renting rooms to them during the World's Fair in 1893. The house was littered with torture chambers and evil tools with which Holmes carried out his deeds. Filmmaker John Borowski has meticulously researched the case, and produced this chilling documentary on Holmes. Revisiting some of the mass murderers past haunts, Borowski draws on photographs, reenactments, and location footage to relive the ghoulish tale.DVD Features:Region 0Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailers Commentary by Filmaker John Borowski OuttakesAdditional Products: Poster Designs

Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky in Our Times (DVD)
This documentary, focusing on intellectual Noam Chomsky and his post 9-11 political views, presents a personal interview along with snippets from lectures he delivered around the country in 2001 and 2002. Known more for his stance as a political theorist and charismatic speaker than his work as an M.I.T. linguist, Chomsky is revered by academics, intellectuals, and leftist thinkers from all camps. His straightforward, nonchalant, and always calm and collected manner of expressing himself comes as a soothing relief to people seeking an alternative political voice. Here, Chomsky delves into topics as complex as the War on Terror and the question of why the terrorists hate us, offering new perspective than that of the mainstream media. With little hesitation, he refers to instances in history where the U.S. has supported terrorist regimes by supplying weapons and turning a blind eye, arguing that the U.S. is itself a terrorist state and thus cannot realistically declare a War on Terror. In addition, he notes that while 9-11 marked an atrocious and terrible loss, it was only unique in terms of its victims (Americans), siting equally ferocious attacks on less visible nations. An eye-opening film that attempts to portray truth, and encourages debate, asserting the ability of the American people to work for change within the democratic system, POWER AND TERROR: NOAM CHOMSKY IN OUR TIMES is directed by John Junkerman and produced by Tetsujiro Yamagami.

The Manson Family (Unrated Edition) (DVD)
This dramatization of the notorious hippies-gone-wrong saga of the Manson Family was 15 years in the works. Directed by underground cult auteur Jim Van Bebber, it is an unflinching, accurate, and original presentation of the familiar, brutal tale. Marcel Games delivers a believably seductive portrayal of the cult leader, blithely easing a group of love generation teens into a life of acid-soaked orgies, gang rape, and ultimately murder. Audiences glimpse the methods by which all outsiders were made to seem less than human, and thus murder victims on the path to spiritual salvation. Van Bebber frames the story through a documentary being put together by a trashy television journalist, so that the story unfolds through interviews with home movie footage; present-day interviews with former cult members; and dramatization to tell the story. The result is an unremitting and unforgettable horror that manages to be strangely beautiful and totally trashy at the same time. Gritty and confrontational, the complete investment and vision of the director is in evidence at all times.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: TrailersText/Photo Galleries: Photo Gallery

Shanghai Ghetto (DVD)
In the late 1930s thousands of German Jews, fearing for their lives under Nazi rule and unable to secure entrance visas to other countries, found refuge in the Japanese-occupied city of Shanghai. Destitute, hungry, and thrust into a strange environment, they made the best of their situation as they waited to return to Europe, little realizing the horrific toll that the ravages of war, and Nazi-orchestrated genocide, were taking on their people. This engrossing documentary from Amir Mann and Dana Janklowicz-Mann tells the tale through use of concurrently running narrative interviews with several of the men and women who grew up in the Shanghai ghetto, including Dana's father, Harold, whose dinner table reminiscences sparked the genesis of the film. From persecution and escape from Europe, through the length of the war and eventual migration to the U.S, the riveting, moving saga of these survivors comes alive through family photos, archival footage, and, most touchingly, their return visits to Shanghai and the one-room tenements they shared with their families. Narrated by Martin Landau, SHANGHAI GHETTO won the audience choice award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it premiered in 2002.DVD Features;Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Filmaker Commentary Deleted Interviews Theatrical Trailer BiographiesInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Access

Blue Vinyl (DVD)
Curious filmmaker Judith Helfand decided to follow up some doubts she had about PVC (polyvinyl chloride) when her parents took the step of coating their house with it. Taking her camera and co-director Daniel B. Gold with her, Helfand hit the road and headed to Louisiana, which is responsible for the bulk of the PVC used in America. They also venture out to California to meet an environmentalist, and to Italy, where a groundbreaking legal battle against the makers of PVC plays out. Fascinating and highly unique in its choice of subject matter, BLUE VINYL offers plenty of food for thought which is, in turns, both shocking and revealing.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Epilogue Deleted Scenes Interviews with the Animators Filmaker BiographiesText/Photo Galleries: Photo Gallery

Taking on the Kennedys (DVD)
The legacy of the Kennedy clan stretches far and wide throughout the political spectrum. With descendents of the late John F. Kennedy still entering into the game, it often seems as if the family's genealogy is permanently entwined with the American political system. But woe betide anyone who steps in their way, for they will enter into a battle against a formidable power. Kevin Vigilante--a Republican politician based in Rhode Island--was someone who did, as he took on Democrat Patrick Kennedy in a vicious fight for a U.S. House seat. With little experience to draw on, it looked a dead cert that Vigilante would fall by the wayside long before the contest was nearing its close. This didn't prove to be the case, however, as Joshua Seftel details in TAKING ON THE KENNEDYS. Providing ample footage of both campaigns, Seftel takes an intricate look at the tactics, both fair and foul, that the candidates utilized. With contributions and footage culled from various members of the Kennedy clan (including Senator Ted Kennedy, John F. Kennedy Jr. and others), this is a thought provoking portrait of contemporary politics that really gets behind the motives and strategies of the people involved.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Filmaker Commentary Short Film - The Real Russess Making of the Kennedy's featuring Pat and Lee Seftel

The Same River Twice (DVD)
In THE SAME RIVER TWICE, director/writer/producer Robb Moss tells a true story that takes place across two separate decades: the 1970s, when Moss and a group of long-haired, free-spirited friends spent a summer rafting and camping along the Colorado River; and the 2000s, when he revisits the friends who have come through the other side of their counterculture youths and into adulthood.By interspersing reels from the original'70s river trip and documentary footage taken 30-some years later, river guide Jim and fellow travelers Barry, Jeff, Cathy, and Danny are seen both as young, idealistic (and often naked) travelers and older (fully clothed) men and women, some of whom have held onto the counterculture's ideals more than others. Moss often films his grown-up subjects as they watch their younger selves on the screen, capturing genuine moments of memory and reflection.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Filmaker Commentary Filmaker Interview Theatrical Trailer Film and Crew BiographiesInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Access

Last Man Standing Politics, Texas Style (DVD)
The Republican grip on the country tightened in 2004 with the reelection of President George W. Bush. His native Texas is often viewed with bemusement by outsiders, especially some of the garrulous politicians who manage to make inroads into the national psyche. Filmmaker Paul Stekler decided to track down some of these effusive characters, and he produces the engrossing results in LAST MAN STANDING POLITICS, TEXAS STYLE. Concentrating on two battles for power, Stekler initially focuses his camera on the battle to be state representative, which is played out between Republican Rick Green and Democrat Patrick Rose. The two couldn't be more different, and regularly butt heads over every issue under the sun. Stekler then proceeds to study the race for governorship, which proves to be a hotly contested issue between both sides. Also taking in the political history of the state, the filmmaker attempts to reason why it has shifted so far to the right when it used to be a left wing stranglehold. A number of prime political figures in the state impart their knowledge in amongst the real life battles, making this a captivating treat for viewers interested in local politics.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Filmaker InterviewInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Access
