Waiting For Fidel (DVD) Waiting For Fidel (DVD) $19.84 » Waiting For Fidel (DVD)

This unusual documentary is neatly summarized by its title. Shot in 1974, it follows a group of men as they travel to Cuba. Expecting to interview Fidel Castro, the group consists of filmmaker Michael Rubbo, broadcaster Goff Sterling, and the former socialist premier of Newfoundland, Joey Smallwood. Unfortunately when they arrive on the troubled isle they end up playing a waiting game with Castro, with the Cuban premier proving to be a highly elusive subject. Using their initiative, the men simply film each other while they wait, and espouse various personal theories on Cuba, socialism, and a broad range of other subjects. Eschewing Castro, the engrossing dialogue makes up the bulk of this film, providing a highly entertaining and unique film that is intuitive documentary filmmaking at its finest.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Interview with Geoff Stirling Video Letter from Director Michael RubboInteractive Features: Scene Access

Yarko and Daniel are secular Israeli twins who are interested in sports and fearful of riding the bus because of terrorist bombings. Mahmoud is a supporter of Hamas and lives in the Muslim Quarter in the Old City. Shlomo is an ultraorthodox Jewish boy who studies the Torah to be a Rabbi one day. Sanabel is a Palestinian refugee whose father is a journalist who's been held in an Israeli prison for two years without trial. Faraj is a refugee living in the Deheishe refugee camp who saw his five-year-old friend killed by an Israeli soldier. Wilhelm Reich: Viva Little Man (DVD) Wilhelm Reich: Viva Little Man (DVD) $19.84 » Wilhelm Reich: Viva Little Man (DVD)

Wilhelm Reich was a physician and scientist whose investigation of energy functions in human emotions led to the discovery of an unknown energy which exists in all living matter and in the cosmos. He called this energy
orgone.
Born in 1897 in the Austrian province of Galicia, Wilhelm Reich, a student of Sigmund Freud, became one of the great psychoanalytic pioneers before his clinical studies led him into the laboratory and to investigations of the energy processes in nature. In 1954, the Federal Food and Drug Administration obtained an injunction which ordered Reich`s literature to be banned and destroyed, constituting one of the most heinous acts of censorship in U.S. history. In an attempt to defend himself, Reich was convicted of contempt of court and imprisoned in Lewisburg Penitentiary where he died on November 3, 1957. This program includes interviews with many of Dr. Reich`s former associates, friends, family members, and scholars who have personally investigated the facts surrounding his life and work.Source: UFO TV

Stevie (DVD) Stevie (DVD) $19.59 » Stevie (DVD)

STEVIE is non-fiction filmmaking at its bravest and most merciless. In its excruciating authenticity, STEVIE provides insight into the complexities of the human condition, and raises the question of personal responsibility to an almost unbearable degree. After directing a series of fictional films based on real events, filmmaker Steve James (HOOP DREAMS) decided to return to his documentary roots and shoot a short film portrait of a figure from his past. While in college, James was employed for a short period as a Big Brother to little Stevie Fielding. Wondering what became of Stevie, James returns to Pomona, Illinois, ten years later, to reconnect with his little brother. What he meets is a deeply troubled man in his mid-twenties, whose horrendous upbringing and reckless behavior have him on a collision course for tragedy. Two years later, Stevie is arrested for child molestation, making James feel even more guilty for having abandoned Stevie so many years ago. James obviously had no idea what he was in for when he embarked on this seemingly innocent project, which grew from an innocent snapshot into a deeply profound photo album. Life is harsh, and brutal, and unfair for many people. STEVIE doesn't provide any answers, but its mere existence is enough to provide a glimmer of hope.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary Unused Footage
