Who said directing was a hard job? In this romantic comedy from director John Walsh, a discouraged plumber, David (Martin Donovan), decides that he'd get more respect and have more luck with the ladies if he were a movie director. So he decides to pose as one. Bribing his casting agent best friend RJ (Kevin Carroll), David sets up auditions for a movie that he's not really directing. To complete the process, he steals the script of aspiring writer and neighbor, Toni (Mary-Louise Parker), with whom he has had a recent one night tryst. Before David and RJ know what is happening, their project, PIPE DREAM, has become the most talked about script in New York City's indie film scene. But when Toni discovers David's less-than-moral behavior, she threatens to pull the plug. That is, until she realizes this might be her only chance to see her film get made. Posing as script supervisor, Toni manages to relay directorial messages to David, as the rest of the production moves forward. Walsh and Cynthia Kaplan's lighthearted script captures the insanity of film production in general, and New York City in particular.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1. Beautiful People (DVD) Beautiful People (DVD) $18.71 » Beautiful People (DVD)

Jasmin Dizdar's
BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE is a lively, darkly comic vision of Bosnian refugees making a new life in London, and the Londoners whose lives they change. As in Paul Thomas Anderson's MAGNOLIA, there are several plotlines running simultaneously, and they link together in surprising ways. Dizdar and his actors present these characters so vividly that the story is always easy to follow. Danny Nussbaum (as Griffin, a soccer hooligan who, in surreal fashion, finds himself in a war zone) and Charlotte Coleman (as Portia, a young doctor smitten with her Bosnian patient) are standouts in a fine cast. The film is shot mostly in a handheld, verite style that heightens its immediacy. Dizdar's storyline skirts tragedy, as the Bosnian immigrants deal with problems that the Londoners, with their own troubles, can barely imagine. But the film retains the hopeful attitude of its immigrant characters, and even some of the bleakest moments in the film have a black comic edge. Dizdar's first feature is a hearty laugh in the face of despair. Its ambition and scope, its deft handling of difficult material, and its consistently comic and chaotic tone, attest to an impressive young talent.DVD FeaturesRegion 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen 1.85Single Side - Single LayerAdditional Release Material: Trailers - 1.Domestic& Foreign Trailers IFC FeaturetteInteractive Features: Scene Access Interactive Menus
