UP AGAINST THE 8 BALL is a zany urban comedy about two women struggling to overcome the odds. Krista (Iva LaShawn, THE WASH) and Monique (Tawny Dahl, BEAUTY SHOP) are two African-American students looking for a way to finance their senior year of college. Dusting off their cue sticks, the pool-hustling duo head to the Las Vegas strip for a high-stakes tournament, where their moneymaking scheme pits them against an oddball assortment of bumbling mobsters and tenderhearted pimps. Directed by actor Troy Curvey, Jr. (VAMPIRE IN BROOKLYN) with creative direction by Miguel Nunez, Jr. (JUWANNA MAN), this indie comedy features supporting turns from J. Arnez (BET`s COMIC VIEW), Kym Whitley (DELIVER US FROM EVA), Lady May (ANNE B. REAL), and Jay Cooper (FAMILY REUNION).

Brooklyn native Danny Aiello stars in this mafia comedy as Uncle Tony, a head NY mobster unimpressed by his nephew Athony's futile attempts to fit in with his family. Determined to toughen the boy up, Tony assigns Anthony to a special task that will really test his character. Paired with Ivan, the comparably weak son of Moscow's biggest mobster, Anthony must go to Russia and retrieve a mail-order bride who pulled a fast one on one of Tony's pals. Through a series of hilarious adventures, Anthony and Ivan might just prove they are tough guys after all. This comedy boasts strong performances from an incredibly diverse cast. 2B PERFECTLY HONEST offers a quirky and comical look at failure, success, and the shifting, unstable nature of the modern American workplace. Frank (Adam Trese) is an ambitious, Armani suit-wearing social-climber who runs a New York advertising agency with his friend and business partner Josh (Andrew McCarthy), a laidback, happily-married hippie. When their business fails, Frank is forced to move back in with his parents (Robert Vaughn and Hayley Mills) while frantically scouring Manhattan for his next big break. Meeting a cadre of shady characters that includes a pseudo-spiritualist (John Turturro), a flaky sorceress (Aida Turturro), and a dishonest businessman (Michael Badalucco), Frank soon embarks on a surreal urban odyssey of self-discovery that makes him question his own values--and his sanity.

IN THEATERS SEPTEMBER 23, 2005While some may raise an eyebrow when they discover that Jenny McCarthy wrote the script for DIRTY LOVE, it shouldn`t come as too much of a surprise: McCarthy has already established herself as a writer, has never been afraid to laugh at herself, and has further screenplays in the works. The curvacious former model proved her comedic chops as host of MTV`s SINGLED OUT, and serves up further laughs in this addition to the gross-out comedy genre, which was directed by her husband, John Mallory Asher (although McCarthy filed for divorce from Asher shortly before DIRTY LOVE`s theatrical debut).
Rebecca (McCarthy) is a fashion photographer who is shocked when she discovers her boyfriend, Richard (Victor Webster), in bed with another woman. After the initial hurt, Rebecca decides she wants Richard back, and embarks on a quest to sleep with as many men as possible, thinking her former lover will be so jealous that he`ll beg her to return. Rebecca`s friend Michelle (Carmen Electra) eggs her on, and a series of farcical set-pieces is engineered to highlight Rebecca`s increasingly desperate attempts to get laid. In a film full of bawdy humor and harsh language, McCarthy camps it up as her character wallows in her own menstrual blood, throws up over her own ample cleavage, and does whatever it takes to win her man back. DIRTY LOVE is a piece of lowbrow filmmaking that is unashamedly trashy, and owes a sizeable debt to the ribald comedy of Benny Hill and the Pope of Trash himself, John Waters.

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING captures twenty-somethings stuck in dead end jobs with few prospects. In the tradition of GO and the gritty style of TRAINSPOTTING, the film features four young people who unhappily work the graveyard shift at different, miserable jobs. Vincent (James Lance) is an incorrigible flirt, Sean (Luke DeWoolfson) and Lenny (Enzo Cilenti) pine for love, but fail to seal the deal, and Jody (Kate Ashfield) is radically disenchanted with her assembly line job. The adventures of female vicar Geraldine Granger (Dawn French) and the somewhat freakish residents of Dibley continue with this collection, which contains both the Christmas and New Year specials that aired to mark the 10th anniversary of the show. In the Christmas edition, Geraldine finds aspersions are being cast upon her sexuality, mainly due to a snooping neighbor spotting the shapely model Rachel Hunter undressing in her house. The New Year episode ups the comedic ante even further, as the 20th anniversary of the Live Aid concerts are marked by some unusual events in Dibley. Dawn French continues to flex her comedic muscles away from longtime partner Jennifer Saunders (ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS) here, showing that she`s perfectly capable of lending her offbeat talents to mainstream shows such as DIBLEY. A fun, eccentric, and uniquely British view of life, THE VICAR OF DIBLEY is another title to add to the lengthy list of outstanding UK comedy shows.
