Cheaper by the Dozen/Home Alone (DVD)
CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN: College sweethearts Tom (Steve Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt) both dreamed of having a huge family and fulfilling careers. But after they had a few kids, Kate gave up her career as a sportswriter, Tom abandoned his hope of becoming the coach of their alma mater's football team, and they moved their brood from the city to the country. Now, after twelve children and a happy life in rural Illinois, Tom has been offered the chance to live his dream and coach the Stallions. No sooner does the family pack up and move to Chicago to pursue Tom's dream job then Kate's ship comes in as well; a publisher has picked up her manuscript based on her experiences raising twelve children. Of course, there's a hitch. Kate has to go to New York for a few days, leaving Tom as the primary care giver for his clan. Can Tom hold it together with his kids--who didn't want to move in the first place--pulling him one way and the university pulling him the other? Shawn Levy directs this likable update of the 1950 film of the same title which was based on a true story.HOME ALONE: Eight year old Kevin MacAllister (MaCaulay Culkin) gets lost in the shuffle as his large, upper-middle class suburban family rushes to make a plane that will ferry them off to their Christmas vacation in France; Kevin, having been banished to an attic room as punishment, is subsequently forgotten. At first this is a dream come true, as for the first time in his young life he has no one to answer to but himself, and he takes full advantage of his newfound freedom, eating junk food and watching late-night horror flicks. But when the bumbling Wet Bandits Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) target his house for a robbery, Kevin must step up to defend his home; he sets a maze of booby traps so elaborate that only an eight year old imagination could concoct them. Ultimately, Kevin learns the importance of family during the holidays in a touching reunion with his clan that is highlighted by

Waiting... (UR/WS/DVD)
Upon his arrival at Shenaniganz, a suburban chain restaurant bedecked with decorative knick-knacks, new wait staff trainee Mitch (John Francis Daley) is placed under the wing of Monty (Ryan Reynolds), a veteran who first informs his young charge that all male employees engage in a game in which the object is to get others to unwittingly look at your genitals. Unwittingly, Mitch has stumbled into a world where servers--such as angry Naomi (Alana Ubach), and coquettish Serena (Anna Faris), along with a rowdy kitchen staff--led by randy Raddimus (Luis Guzman)--are at constant war with their demanding, low-tipping customers. Meanwhile, waiter Dean (Justin Long) must decide whether to take a promotion to manager or set out for brighter horizons beyond birthday songs and whimsically-named appetizers.
The first film from writer-director Rob McKittrick has a low-budget charm that is well suited to the realistic desperation below its crowd-pleasing gross-out humor.
Long is a likeable straight man to Reynolds
wisecracking ringleader, while Chi McBride and indie veteran Ubach (CLOCKWATCHERS) add texture in their supporting roles. A cousin in crudity to Kevin Smith s subdivision-themed comedies, WAITING will score a bull s-eye with service industry pros or anyone prefers their comedy to originate from below the belt.

Napoleon Dynamite (DVD)
Jared Hess makes an unforgettable directorial debut with NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, a hilarious, tender, and original portrait of a truly eccentric character. Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is a high-school outcast in every sense of the word. More interested in playing tetherball by himself and drawing pictures of his favorite animal, the
liger
(a combination of a lion and a tiger), Napoleon is ignored by everyone in his tiny hometown of Preston, Idaho. At home, things aren`t much better. His uber-nerd older brother Kip (Aaron Ruell) and ultra-vain Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) are too busy with their own obsessions to give Napoleon the time of day. It isn`t until a new student, Pedro (Efren Ramirez), arrives that Napoleon finds friendship and performs an act of brave defiance that makes him a true hero.
Written by Hess and his wife Jerusha, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE brilliantly captures the awkwardness of high school without succumbing to condescension. Most of this can be attributed to Heder, who steps into Napoleon`s moon boots with a jaw-dropping flawlessness. The rest of the cast is just as natural, underplaying their roles and letting the comedy unfold without forcing any of the jokes. Add a hilarious soundtrack of 1980s hits and you have an instant classic, a crowd-pleasing riot that has an undeniably universal appeal.
This film screened at SXSW 2004 in Austin, Texas.

Director Greg Lombardo looks at the relationship game from a male standpoint in this comedy about dating, sex, marriage, and infidelity. KNOTS is the story of three guys whose overlapping love lives entangle them in a complicated web of love, passion, and deceit. Shortly after moving to a new home in Manhattan, Dave (Scott Cohen) meets a sexy lawyer (Paulina Porizkova), who makes him question his devotion to his wife (Annabeth Gish). Meanwhile, smooth-talking playboy Cal (John Stamos) claims that longtime girlfriend Emily (Tara Reid) is the one, yet doesn't hesitate to move in on his pal Jake's (Michael Leydon Campbell) woman. These events are just the first few in a long line of tumultuous happenings that affect the lives the three men and their partners. Darker in mood than most films on similar subject matters, KNOTS offers a fresh perspective on the politics of contemporary courtship.

The Thing About My Folks (DVD)
Paul Reiser wrote and stars in THE THING ABOUT MY FOLKS, although he graciously handed over the lead role to veteran screen star Peter Falk. Directed by Raymond De Felitta (CAFE SOCIETY), the film is ostensibly a road movie that allows Reiser to dig beneath the surface of a unique father-son relationship. Reiser plays Ben Kleinman, while Falk plays his dad, Sam. Together, they set off on a road trip after Ben learns his mom is leaving Sam, and has sketched out the reasons why in a hastily written letter. Ben decides a road trip is the best way to distract his father as various relatives unite to look for his missing mother, and the journey affords the two men the opportunity
to bond in ways they have never previously managed. As Sam tells Ben stories about his 50 year relationship with his errant wife, De Felitta utilizes flashbacks to flesh out the history of their relationship, while Falk pours plenty of emotion into his re-telling of the family`s history. The heavier segments of Sam`s recollections are peppered with jokes to ease the tone of the film, adding a nice counterpoint to the portrayal of the Kleinman`s as a highly dysfunctional unit. It`s Falk who really shines throughout; easily cementing his reputation as one of the great, if somewhat unheralded American actors of his generation, THE THING ABOUT MY FOLKS is worth seeing for him alone. Reiser`s script really allows the weathered actor a chance to shine, providing another welcome performance to add to Falk s impressive canon of films.

Touch of Pink (DVD)
Jimi Mistry (THE GURU, EAST IS EAST) stars in this charming and surprisingly poignant romantic comedy, which is driven by the humor that infuses the multifaceted cultural divide between the young and old, Indian and Western, gay and straight--not to mention real and imaginary, alive and dead--characters. Alim is a young South Indian movie photographer living in London after relocating there from Canada. He lives with his boyfriend Giles (Kristen Holden-Reid), as well as the ghost of Cary Grant (Kyle MacLachlan), whom only Alim can see. Pursuing the ideal world presented in the films of Grant-era Hollywood, Alim seeks and then follows the advice of the ghost. This works out pretty well until his mother Nuru decides to come for a visit. She is a conservative Indian mother who is concerned at Alim's bachelorhood, especially in light of her nephew's impending wedding and the friendly sibling rivalry she shares with his mother. Madcap confusion ensues as Alim tries to keep Giles' true identity and his own, from being discovered by his mother, all the while trying to maintain composure in the style of his mentor.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - English Subtitles - English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai - OptionalAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1. It`s All Gone Pete Tong (DVD)
Shot in a mocumentary style reminiscent of THIS IS SPINAL TAP, director Michael Dowse`s IT`S ALL GONE PETE TONG is a funny, touching tale of a DJ who loses his hearing. The title refers to a hugely popular DJ from the UK, who briefly features in the film, and also fulfills the role of executive producer.
It`s all gone Pete Tong
derives from Cockney rhyming slang--a popular UK method for inventing phrases by finding unusual words that rhyme--and when used, means that
it`s all gone wrong.
Frankie Wilde (Paul Kaye) is the hearing-impaired DJ who delights the clubbers on the island of Ibiza by coupling his larger-than-life drug and alcohol-fueled persona with undeniable skills behind the turntables. But as Frankie`s hearing rapidly disintegrates, and his former manager, wife, friends, and record label slowly fade away, the distraught DJ plunges into the depths of despair. After Frankie hits rock bottom, Dowse steers his film into calmer waters, with the fallen star kicking the drugs, and concentrating on rehabilitation. While the events unfold around the fictional character of Frankie, many real-life DJ`s appear in the film, giving it a comedic edge as luminaries such as Carl Cox, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, Lol Hammond, and others muse on Frankie`s rise and fall in the cutthroat world of dance music. But it`s Paul Kaye`s performance that really gives the film its heart and soul. Infusing his character with a passionate likeability that shines through even when Frankie`s behavior plummets to new lows, Kaye conjures up just the right amount of pathos to stop the film from teetering over into corny sentimentalism, making his portrayal a supremely convincing depiction of a star caught in the terrifying throes of a career-ending condition.

It Should Happen to You (DVD)
IT SHOULD HAPPEN TO YOU is a thoroughly delightful, raucous comedy about an aspiring no-name model who is catapulted to media celebrityhood--and into the arms of a national soap company executive--by the sheer force of her naive chutzpah. Judy Holliday plays Gladys Glover, a small-town girl who's come to New York to realize her dream of making it big and decides to take matters into her own hands by having her name and picture plastered on a large, empty billboard. Suddenly all of New York is wondering just who she is, and the buzz starts to grow, ultimately reaching the ears of one Evan Adams III (Peter Lawford), an executive for a huge soap company who wants the billboard for his products. As luck will have it, Gladys succeeds in landing not only a deal that galvanizes her modeling career but also a romance with him. The inimitable Jack Lemmon makes his film debut as Peter Sheppard, a documentarian who falls for Gladys despite his disapproval of how she is handling her newly found fame. This George Cukor romantic comedy is an enduringly appealing tale of love, American-style.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital - English
