COMPANY MAN, cowritten and codirected by Douglas McGrath (EMMA) and Peter Askin, is an AUSTIN POWERS meets THE PINK PANTHER screwball farce about the 1959 Cuban revolution. Allen Quimp (McGrath) is a bumbling, gee-whiz high school teacher in 1950s Connecticut who believes grammar instruction is his gift to society. Quimp's grasping wife, Daisy (Sigourney Weaver), however, has higher aspirations for him. In classic THE MAN IN THE GRAY FLANNEL SUIT mode, Daisy desires a highly paid husband who can provide a better lifestyle. Desperate to impress her, Quimp pretends to have a secret life as a CIA agent. When Quimp accidentally helps a visiting Russian dancer, Petrov (Ryan Phillipe) defect, the CIA actually does hire him, so they can claim credit. The Company ships Quimp off to Havana, Cuba, where Agent Fry (Denis Leary) and Chief Lowther (Woody Allen)--who has some of the film's funniest lines--studiously ignore the impending revolution. However, when Fidel Castro (Anthony LaPaglia) overthrows General Batista (Alan Cumming), the fanatical, chest-bumping Agent Johnson (John Turturro) convinces Quimp to help him assassinate the Cuban dictator. With hilarious performances from Allen and Turturro, COMPANY MAN puts a slapstick, revisionist spin on Castro's rise to power.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseWidescreen AnamorphicAudio: Dolby Digital Surround - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailer - 1. Where's Marlowe? (DVD) Where's Marlowe? (DVD) $20.74 » Where's Marlowe? (DVD)

Wilton (Def - BAMBOOZLED) and A.J. (Livingston - EDTV) aspire to be great documentary filmmakers--however, in the wake of their failed debut WATER IN THE APPLE, about New York's water system, they are having trouble getting anyone in the film industry to take them seriously. Determined to make it, they begin working on their next project, a sure-fire winner about private detectives in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, their poor instincts lead them to choose Joe Boone (Ferrer - TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME)--a bumbling detective who can't seem to find his way around the city, let alone solve any cases--as their subject. With the cameras rolling, the incompetent detective takes the would-be filmmakers on a bumbling, wild goose chase throughout Los Angeles in this offbeat, reel-life mockumentary.DVD FeaturesRegion 1 EncodingAnamorphic WidescreenInteractive MenusScene SelectionTheatrical Trailer

Real Life (DVD) Real Life (DVD) $20.74 » Real Life (DVD)

Satirist Albert Brooks makes his directorial debut in this hilarious mockumentary that focuses on the day-to-day life of a typical American family. Brooks plays himself, a producer who pitches a movie concept about filming a real American family for one year and editing it into a movie. Backed up by a team of psychologists and a respected institute dealing with human behavior, he promises not to let the cameras interfere in any way in their lives. But the problems begin on day one, and Brooks desperately tries to hold his project together. Obsessed with presenting what's real, he is soon convinced that real life isn't exciting enough for film. Brooks mercilessly parodies the Hollywood persona in this sharp satire of the entertainment industry that presages such later films as EDTV and THE TRUMAN SHOW as well as the television shows THE REAL WORLD, BIG BROTHER, and SURVIVOR.DVD Features:Region 1Keep Case - SensormaticAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Single Side - Dual LayerAudio: Dolby Digital Mono - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Trailers - 1.Original Theatrical Interview - Albert Brooks - DirectorInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Selection

In The Mix (DVD) In The Mix (DVD) $20.74 » In The Mix (DVD)

R&B star Usher makes an assured screen debut in this mix of mob movie and romantic comedy. Chazz Palminenteri co-stars as the friendly don who recruits family friend Darrell (Usher) to play bodyguard for his daughter, Dolly (Emmanuelle Chiriqi). She and Darrell have been friends since they were kids, but the seven years since they last saw each other have changed things. She`s grown into a headstrong young law student with a yen for yoga and a smug yuppie boyfriend (Geoff Stults); he`s grown into an ultra-smooth chick magnet with dreams of starting his own record company. They`re destined for each other, but there`s not only the racial issue in their way--someone`s trying to take over the family business via treachery and bullets, and Darrell`s right in the thick of things. When the interracial romance isn`t heating up the screen, there`s plenty of raucous comedy supplied by Anthony Fazio as Dolly`s pseudo-gangsta younger brother, Kevin Hart as Darrell`s loudmouthed co-DJ, and a bulldog with an unfortunate digestion problem. Director Ron Underwood takes his time going around the more edgy turns in the script, giving the actors room to stretch out and get comfortable in their characters and surroundings, and helping the film transcend its more formulaic elements (it`s an obvious nod to the 1992 Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner chestnut, THE BODYGUARD). Best of all, Usher proves his game extends to the big screen, where he displays plenty of debonair warmth and easygoing charm.

Saving Face (DVD) Saving Face (DVD) $20.68 » Saving Face (DVD)

Writer-director Alice Wu`s debut film is a heartwarming and heartbreaking romantic comedy about family, tradition, and changing times. Michelle Krusiec gives an outstanding performance as Wilhelmina, a doctor in a Manhattan hospital who returns to Flushing`s Chinatown every Friday night to participate in her extended family`s weekly dance mixer. While her mother (TWIN PEAKS`s Joan Chen) and the other women try to set her up with eligible bachelors, Wil falls for Vivian (Lynn Chen), a beautiful young dancer who feels the attraction as well.
As the two women contemplate a possible relationship, Wil`s mother, who is nearing fifty, reveals she is pregnant, but she will not tell anyone who the father is. Wil`s grandfather (Jin Wang) disowns his daughter for the shame she is bringing the family--he feels he has
lost face
in the community--forcing Wil to take in her mother and care for her in a reversal of generational roles and responsibility. But just as her mother remains secretive of who the father of her baby is, Wil keeps her lesbianism a secret as well. SAVING FACE, which played the Toronto and Sundance Film Festivals, is an endearing film, with likable characters in unique, believable situations that are both funny and moving. Krusiec and Lynn Chen are a charming couple, and Joan Chen is stoically wonderful as an Asian-American woman representing the bridge between the old traditions and the new Chinese youth culture. The soundtrack features a pair of songs by Marc Anthony Thompson, aka Chocolate Genius, as well as Cat Power and Leona Naess.

Coming out of the closet may never be easy, and MAMBO ITALIANO takes a comedic look at why it may be even harder for first generation Italian-Canadians. Angelo (Luke Kirby), son of Italian immigrants, realizes at a young age he's gay, and so does everyone else in his Montreal elementary school. Yet somehow his family remains in the dark. After thirty years of living at home with his naive parents (Ginette Reno, Paul Sorvino) and garish sister Anna (Claudia Ferri), Angelo decides to get his own apartment. A burglary re-acquaints Angelo with Nino, his childhood friend (Peter Miller), now a hardbody twentysomething cop. Nino and Angelo quickly fall in love and Nino moves in, but they decide to keep it a secret from their families. After a disastrous dinner party, chaos ensues, sending Angelo and Nino into a vortex of identity politics. The film's colorful sets stand out, decorated with ostentatious wall patterns that reflect Anna's Fendi-esque wardrobe and the bright hues of the landscape. The film exaggerates other various Italian-immigrant stereotypes for comedic effects, but works hard to earn endearing moments of family loyalty, self-searching, and love.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAudio: Dolby 5.1 - English

The Wayans brothers scored a surprise monster hit with SCARY MOVIE, and in the advertising for that film they promised
no sequel.
So here it is, SCARY MOVIE 2, featuring the return of Shawn and Marlon Wayans as well as Anna Faris and Regina Hall in addition to some new faces added to the gross-out fun, including Chris Elliott as a caretaker with a deformed hand that he uses extensively in his cooking, Tim Curry as a professor with a thing for the girls, David Cross as a wheelchair-bound computer geek with a great combover, and Tori Spelling as a hot teenager looking for some ghostly action. The movie begins with a prologue that spoofs THE EXORCIST, with Andy Richter as the young priest, James Woods as the old priest, and Natasha Lyonne as the poor possessed child with the salty tongue. From there the plot uses and abuses from Shirley Jackson`s THE HAUNTING--in this case, a group of college students must spend a weekend in a haunted castle in exchange for receiving an A from their naughty professor. Once again Keenen Ivory Wayans directs, this time borrowing liberally from such classic (and not-so-classic) films as THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, POLTERGEIST, GHOSTBUSTERS, AMERICAN PIE, PAULIE, THE ENTITY, THE INVISIBLE MAN, DIRTY HARRY, WHAT LIES BENEATH, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, ROCKY, CAT PEOPLE, THE FOG, CHARLIE`S ANGELS, TWISTER, CHARLIE`S ANGELS, M:I-2, and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, among countless others.
