The year is 1955, and 13-year-old Lenny Levine (Ryan Merriman) has made it his mission to see two people engaged in an act of love. His first choice--Roy Rogers and Dale Evans--being unavailable, he tries to spy on his mother (Patti LuPone) and his new stepfather. But no sooner does his stepfather figure out what's going on than Lenny gets shipped off to Queens to spend the summer with his Aunt Norma and her Italian husband, Phil (Peter Onorati). Lenny's hormones kick into high gear when he starts discussing S-E-X with the neighborhood kids and meets a former brassiere model named Hedy (Gretchen Mol). What follows is a coming-of-age story in which Lenny learns about the reality of becoming an adult. First-time director Jason Alexander trusts his material--he lets Lenny be a mensch, and draws the other characters as three-dimensional humans (eschewing the golly-gee stereotypes that usually populate 50's period pieces). The kids are perhaps a bit more sophisticated than they might really have been, but the sometimes anachronistic attitudes ward off sentimentality, and help to make this small film a surprisingly relevant one.DVD Features:Region 1Keep Case

After the runaway success of their program All In The Family, the producing team of Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin took a cue from the successful British sitcom Steptoe and Son in order to create this smash vehicle for African-American comedian Redd Foxx. Sanford and Son details the comedically endless disagreements between Fred Sanford (Foxx), aging junkyard owner, and his 34 year-old son Lamont (Demond Wilson). Airing from 1972 to 1977, the show was NBC's most popular program for four of its five seasons and earned four Emmy nominations. Created as a spin-off of Norman Lear's revolutionary sitcom All In The Family, The Jeffersons ran on CBS-TV from 1975 to 1983, with a run of over 250 episodes. The program details the comic exploits of short-tempered African-American dry cleaning magnate George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) and his sassy wife Louise Weezy as they move from their blue-collar neighborhood to a deluxe apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Adding to the fun is their back-talking maid Florence and a cast of colorful supporting characters. George Stevens' last film with Cary Grant represents yet another hit in his string of classic comedies. Grant stars as Leopold Dilg, a political activist who is wrongly indicted for arson and murder when a factory worker dies in a mill fire in the town of Sweetbrook. Believing that he'll be executed if he remains in jail, he escapes and breaks into a cottage that schoolteacher Nora Shelley (Jean Arthur) is preparing for Professor Michael Lightcap (Ronald Coleman), the dean of a law school. She allows Grant to stay in the attic, without alerting the professor. The next day, a reporter arrives to question Lightcap about Dilg's case, along with Sam Yates (Edgar Buchanan), Dilg's lawyer, who comes at Nora's behest. Since Yates and Lightcap know each other from law school, Yates asks Lightcap's help in defending his client, who he claims to have been framed. The professor refuses, intent on writing a legal treatise. Before Yates leaves, he persuades Nora to house Dilg, who she introduces to Lightcap as a gardener. Before long, the professor begins to realize that the gardener is well versed in the intricacies and inequities of the U.S. legal system.
Stevens' entertaining romantic triangle, in which the atmosphere of legal debate is leavened by wit, and low comedy, is brilliantly played by all, especially an atypically dark and impulsive Grant. Jan Hrebejk's DIVIDED WE FALL, the Czech nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, tells the moving tale of a Czech couple attempting desperately to preserve their humanity while the Nazis take over their country and wage war on the rest of Europe. Bolek Polivka stars as Josef, a humble man helping the Jews pack up and leave before the Nazi invasion. He and his wife, Marie (the marvelous Anna Siskova), are in danger of drifting apart because they are unable to have children. Once the war begins and the Jews are shepherded out of their town and to Theresienstadt, Marie and Josef must obey the Gestapo's rules or else end up being arrested. They are visited almost daily by Horst (Jaroslav Ducek), who is quite taken with Marie while trying to lure Josef into collaborating the Nazis; to show his support for the new regime, Horst has even trimmed his mustache and combed his hair so that he closely resembles Hitler.
