Rutles 2: Can`t Buy Me Lunch/Fawlty Towers Series Two (DVD)
Two classic examples of British comedy at its best are included on this collection. RUTLES 2: CAN`T BUY ME LUNCH: When Eric Idle constructed a wacky spoof of The Beatles, dubbed them
The Rutles,
and made a hilarious mockumentary in 1978 named ALL YOU NEED IS CASH, he spawned a huge cult of eager worshipers who longed to hear more from Dirk (Idle), Nasty (Neil Innes), Stig (Ricky Fataar), and Barry (John Halsey). In 2002 The Pre-Fab Four reunited, toured America, and invited trusted interviewer Dirk McQuickly (Idle again) on the road with them. Of course we meet many of the artists whom The Rutles influenced along the way, including David Bowie, Carrie Fisher, Garry Shandling, and even Salman Rushdie, as well as further capers with the band themselves. FAWLTY TOWERS SERIES TWO: The reigning champion as Most Popular BBC Sitcom is firmly in the grasp of
Fawlty Towers.
Former Monty Python cast members Connie Booth and John Cleese created one of the most bizarre comedies of all time, wherein Basil Fawlty (Cleese) is in charge of running the Fawlty Towers hotel... into the ground. This collection includes the following titles:
Gourmet Night,
The Germans,
Communication Problems,
and
The Psychiatrist.

The David Steinberg Show (DVD)
In 1974, THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW entered the Canadian airwaves, with the inimitable comedian welcoming a variety of guests onto his fictional show. Similar to THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, performers were shown both on and off stage, while recurrent characters such as musician Spider Reichman (John Candy) and security guard James MacGregor (Dave Thomas) added a modicum of continuity to each show. Something of a precursor to SCTV, which many of THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW`s performers went on to star in, this Canadian cult hit is a great way to experience some early performances from future comedy greats; alongside Steinberg, Candy, and Thomas, appearances are made by Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, and Andrea Martin.

Knowing Me Knowing You..with Alan Partridge: The Complete Series (DVD)
A sidesplitting parody of talk shows (or
chat shows
as they`re called in the UK), KNOWING ME KNOWING YOU..WITH ALAN PARTRIDGE is simply one of the funniest television programs ever made. The character of Alan Partridge was invented by Steve Coogan (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE), and carefully sculpted by Coogan and his co-writers Armando Iannucci and Patrick Marber (CLOSER). Partridge first appeared on radio, with Coogan positioning Alan as the host of a 30-minute fictional talk show named KNOWING ME KNOWING YOU. Coogan`s next step saw him taking the character onto comedic TV news-spoof THE DAY TODAY, which saw Alan posited as a hapless but hilarious sports presenter. The next logical maneuver was to form a TV show around Partridge, so Coogan gathered together a number of familiar actors and writers from his previous projects, and transferred KNOWING ME KNOWING YOU into a television show. The results make for breathtakingly precise comedy, with the luckless Partridge floundering out of his depth as he unwittingly offends guests; attempts to offer fashion tips; wrestles with half-naked men; offends the French; and a whole lot more. Fans of SPINAL TAP will relish the attention to detail as Coogan and his talented team play havoc with the talk show medium, and converted fans may find it difficult not to find themselves uttering Alan`s immortal catchphrase long after the credits roll.... A-ha!
All six episodes from the show are collected here, plus the extended Chritmas special.

The Big Bounce 2004& 1969 (DVD)
THE BIG BOUNCE (1969): Before Tom Clancy made the name Jack Ryan synonymous with Cold War heroics, Ryan O'Neal broke into the movies by portraying a decidedly different Jack Ryan in this lurid drama. O'Neal's Ryan is picking cucumbers when he picks a fight with a Mexican immigrant coworker (Victor Paul). The brutal beating sends Ryan to look for work elsewhere and he lands in roadside motel. Trouble continues to follow the ex-con as both a secretary with a seedy reckless streak (Leigh Taylor-Young) and a troubled, sexy transient (Lee Grant) make plays for the handsome young Ryan. A revelation, this meandering work exudes attitude and boasts a highly unusual score by Mike Curb, who would later become Lieutenant Governor of California.THE BIG BOUNCE (2004): Based on the Elmore Leonard novel that inspired both the 1969 film and this remake, THE BIG BOUNCE is a comic film noir about an everyman who finds trouble in the form of a beautiful blonde. Jack Ryan (Owen Wilson) is a small-time scam artist who is determined to leave that life behind after yet another run-in with the law. But when he meets the mistress of his former boss, Ray Ritchie (Gary Sinese), all bets are off. Nancy (newcomer Sara Foster) is hot, mischievous, and up to no good, but Jack is too smitten to use his better judgment. It isn't long before he's agreed to help her steal $200,000 from Ray. Along the way, he must contend with a series of potentially shady characters, who might not be what they seem (Morgan Freeman, Charlie Sheen, and Bebe Neuwirth).
