A tongue in cheek sequel to Fairbanks and Dwan's THREE MUSKETEERS, it stars the former as the chivalrous D'Artagnan. After Anne of Austria (Belle Bennett), consort of Louis XIII (Rolfe Sedan), bears him twins. Cardinal Richilieu, eager to be rid of one of the twins, ships him off to Spain.
Constance (Marguerite de la Motte), the lover of D'Artagnan, is threatening to Richilieu and the manipulative Rochefort (Ulrich Haupt), as a witness to the birth of the king's offspring. Thus, Rochefort arranges for the seamstress to be kidnapped. Although D'Artagnan attempts to rescue her, she is killed before he arrives, and the musketeer is ordered to guard the prince. For many years D'Artagnan successfully protects Louis XIV until, one day, Rochefort kidnaps him as well. He imprisons the young man in a fortress, in an iron mask, while placing his twin brother on the throne. Dr. Arnold Fanck expands upon the real-life story of explorer Alfred Lothar Wegener, whose polar expedition of 1929 ended in disaster; two of the survivors of that trek served as advisors on the film. The fictional Karl Lorenz (Gustav Diessel) is on a mission to find out what happened to Wegener, and to save any members of his team who may still be alive. Lorenz becomes stranded on a slowly-diminishing iceberg, menaced by polar bears and in grave danger. His wife, Ellen (Leni Riefenstahl), a famous pilot, arrives to save the day, but crash-lands and is stranded along with everyone else. Luckily, a group of Eskimos and Major Ernst Udet (playing himself) arrive in kayaks. S.O.S. ICEBERG was filmed in the same year as Riefenstahl`s VICTORY OF THE FAITH, the first of the films she made for the Nazi party.

LORDS OF DOGTOWN principally follows these three as they deal with sudden fame and fortune. Stacy (John Robinson) is the elegant, responsible beauty. Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) is a frizzy-haired heartthrob with an overblown ego and penchant for pugilism. And Jay (Emile Hirsch), arguably the most compelling of the leads, supports his drug-addicted mother and is too cynical to be lured by the temptations of corporate vultures. At the center of it all is a secret that threatens to tear everything apart.Theron, who performed most of her own stunts, glides through the film in barely-there outfits, while also jumping, running, slinking, diving, and cartwheeling her way through dangerous situations, recalling the gorgeous movements made by the animated version. The film alternates between stark gray-and-white sets and brilliant splashes of red, green, and yellow, adding a vibrancy that befits a cartoon adaptation. The taut script, by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (who previously teamed up on CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL), delves deep into the relationships of siblings that often border between love and hate. Graeme Revell`s smart score never overwhelms the action, which involves a lot of automatic weapons, and Oscar winner Frances McDormand and Oscar nominee Pete Postlethwaite feature in small roles.
