A City Called Heaven (DVD)

Named after an old spiritual and based on a true story, this award-winning, gender-bending comedy stars New York Actor's Studio members Gerald Orange and Linette Hardie. Upon her deathbed, Sister Glen Moore issues some complicated requests, which Brooklyn-based Revered Dexter (Orange) struggles valiantly to carry out. Glen asks for a final encounter with her formidable mother, Mrs. Gertrud Hudson (Hardie), who she hasn't seen for many years. Add to that a eulogy by Jesse Jackson and the titular hymn sung by opera star Benita cross at her funeral, and the poor Reverend finds his spiritual reserves--and his patience--severely taxed. But all this madness pales in comparison to the secret that Glen almost manages to take to the grave...
