Old Believers (DVD)

Czech filmmaker Jana Sevcikova is a documentarian who shines a welcome spotlight on various European communities, many of which doggedly adhere to ancient rituals passed down over many generations. Three of Sevcikova`s films are collected here. OLD BELIEVERS (2001) follows a religious community over a five year period, documenting their daily rituals and lifestyle choices. SEVCOKOVA (1984) is a film about a group of Czechs who settled in Romania in the early 1800s, and whose descendents still live there in a community that has remained remarkably unchanged since its inception. Finally, JAKUB (1992) takes a look at the life of the Ruthenians, a Romanian community who have witnessed incredible change and upheaval over the years as the country they inhabit underwent a revolution.
