Czech composer Christophe Willibald Gluck left an indelible impact on the opera, helping to move the genre out of the Baroque world and into the Classical one. His 1776 French opera ALCESTE is often thought to be his most innovative work -- one of intense passion and emotion. This video features Robert Wilson's magnificent production of the opera. Staged at the Theatre Musical De Paris, it features the historically accurate talents of a period instrument ensemble and the English Baroque Soloists. They are beautifully aided by the singing of the Monteverdi Choir and a troupe of dancers.DVD Features:Region 0Snap CaseAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0
